Govt submits report on changes in Khatm-e-Nabuwwat oath in IHC

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The government on Tuesday submitted report of a committee led by Senator Raja Zafarul Haq, formed to probe the issue of the amendment in the oath regarding the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat when the Elections Act 2017 was passed last year, in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui heard the case pertaining to the sit-in of religious parties at Faizabad. In today’s proceedings, Deputy Attorney General Raja Arshad Kiyani appeared before the court and requested the court to grant time till tomorrow to submit the committee’s report. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui expressed displeasure at the government’s failure to submit the report of the committee. The court directed the officials to submit the report by 1pm, adding that otherwise the prime minister will be summoned in person and contempt notices issued to the relevant ministers and secretaries. After a brief break the deputy attorney general submitted the report in the court. Justice Shaukat observed that this case should be considered a case pertaining to the sit-in of religious parties at Faizabad, adding that this case was now pertaining to Khatm-e-Nabuwwat. Justice Siddiqui ruled that the court will now conduct daily proceedings of the case. The court then observed that the report would remain sealed with it and adjourned the hearing till tomorrow (Wednesday).
