Govt won’t file appeal against LHC verdict immediately: Farogh Naseem

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem has said that the government will not file an appeal against the verdict of the Lahore High Court (LHC). Addressing a press conference along with Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting on Monday, she said that the government reserves the right to file the appeal. “However, the appeal is not filed in a matter where there is no room,” he said. The minister said that the LHC has to announce the verdict on merit in January. “Each prisoner has the right to get the treatment abroad if the treatment is not available in the country,” he said. He said that the government will look into the application of Asif Zardari on merit if he filed the application. Farogh Naseem said that all had unanimously asked to allow Nawaz Sharif to go abroad for treatment once keeping in view his health. “The government had granted conditional permission which was suspended by the court. The government had demanded bail bond, not indemnity bond,” he said. He said that Shehbaz Sharif’s lawyers had refused to submit the affidavit. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the meeting had discussed the issue of the departure of Nawaz Sharif. “The prime minister has raised the slogan of ‘One Pakistan, Not Two’. We have to make the laws more effective for this slogan,” she said. She said that the cabinet had appreciated the step taken by the prime minister on humanitarian grounds. “The PTI is working along with its allies to end inequality in vogue in our society,” she said. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the forum had approved the new policy for alternative energy. “The cabinet also approved the Nov 8 decisions made by the Economic Coordination Committee,” he said. She said that the cabinet had also approved the new National Tariff Policy. The SAPM said that the current deficit had reduced first time in the history of the country. “The results of the improvement in the economic indicators would reach the people soon,” she added. Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the prime minister had also sought the data of aged prisoners involved in petty crimes. “The meeting also approved the projects of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),” he said.
