Govt’s attitude will ruin democracy: Khawaja Asif
November 8, 2019
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif has said that passing laws through ordinances was not a good omen and warned that if the government continued with the practice, it would ruin democracy. Addressing Defence Minister Khattak’s remarks during the NA session regarding the ongoing sit-in led by the JUI-F, he said barring opposition from holding speech in the assembly doesn’t come under democracy and that passing laws through ordinances was not a good omen. The PML-N leader said that the opposition will be forced to move the Supreme Court (SC) if government does not refrain from disrespecting the constitution. He said that the government representatives don’t know such things which we (opposition parties) know.
Govt committee haven’t courage to tell PM about JUI-F’s demands
Khawaja Asif has also claimed that Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said the government’s negotiation committee did not have the courage to tell Prime Minister Imran Khan the actual demands of JUI-F protesters. “Pervez Elahi said that he told the premier about the demands of the Azadi marchers, Asif said during today's National Assembly sitting. In response to protest by members of the treasury benches, Asif said: “I don't know what is true and what is false. This is what Pervez Elahi sahib has said. He said that committee members complain that Imran Khan gets cross if they tell him the truth.” Earlier, Minister for Defence Pervaiz Khattak asked the opposition if they want democracy to flourish in the country, then come on the negotiation table for solving the issues rather than sit-in politics. Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, he lashed out at the opposition parties and said that the PTI government always advocated for rule of law and strengthening of democracy. He said that two political parties had pushed the country into dark by taking unprecedented loans.
