Gujranwala train tragedy occurred due to over speeding: JIT report

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The joint inquiry committee comprising of Railways Ministry and Pakistan Army officials has held the driver, assistant driver and pointsman responsible for the Gujranwala train tragedy occurred due to over speeding. The report said that the train had derailed before the accident and the driver did not apply the brakes on time. It added that the train’s speed was 85km/h at the time of the accident, while there is no permission to run the Group One more than 35km/h. The committee's report which was released in Islamabad on Friday considered all the possible causes of derailment – bridge, track, locomotives and sabotage – which were ruled out. The committee also recommended that appropriate action under Efficiency and Discipline Rules be taken against all those found responsible. Railways Chairman Agha Perveen will approve the investigation team.
