Gun can't make decision on Afghanistan, says DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – DG ISPR Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar has said that Pakistan advanced the Afghan peace process with a good intent and it had a key role in this regard.

Talking to the media on Saturday, he said that there are several aspects of the Afghan peace process. "The US pullout from Afghanistan has been completed. Trillions of dollars have been spent on the training of the Afghan National Army. The Afghan forces should be capable of controlling the situation," he declared.

The DG ISPR said that India is worried as it made all investment to cause a damage to Pakistan. "The world witnessed how much efforts were made by Pakistan for the Afghan peace process. Now it is up to Afghans that what sort of government they want in Afghanistan," he maintained.

He categorically said that the gun cannot make the decision on Afghanistan as it could not be decided in 30 years. "The Afghans will have to make the final decision jointly otherwise the situation will turn into a civil war," he added.

Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar said that all Afghan factions are angry with the current situation. "We had started making security arrangements at the Pak-Afghan border much earlier. Several groups, including Daesh are present in Afghanistan that attack Pakistan daily."

He said that there will be a danger of refugees influx in the wake of an increase in violence in Afghanistan. "We will not allow anyone to use our soil against anyone. The soil of another country should also be not used against Pakistan," he added.

The DG ISPR said that Pakistan had always tried to resolve the Afghanistan issue as per aspirations of the Afghans.
