LAHORE (92 News) - Hamza Shehbaz on Friday was retained as the chief minister of Punjab after the deputy speaker refused to count the votes of the PML-Q members on the basis of the letter sent to him by PML-Q president Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain.

He bagged 179 votes while his rival Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi bagged 186 votes.

Announcing the results, Dost Muhammad Mazari ruled that PML-Q president Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain has ordered all Q League members to vote for Hamza Shehbaz. "I cannot count the votes of the PML-Q on the basis of the letter of Chaudhary Shujaat," he observed.

He declared all the votes of the PML-Q had been rejected. 

After the rejection of the PML-Q votes, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi got 176 votes. As a result, Hamza Shehbaz was retained as the Punjab chief minister.
