Incessant rain breaks 20-year record in Lahore, turns roads & streets into ponds

LAHORE (92 News) – The 10-hour incessant rain broke 20-year record in the provincial capital, turning all roads and streets into ponds.

Three people were killed in Lahore and two in Gujrat in the rain-related incidents. In all, eight people were injured during the rains in different cities.

The Harbanspura Underpass has become a lake. Maximum rain of 234 millimeter was recorded in Tajpura. Up to 13 feet water was stored in the newly-constructed water tanks.

In Kasur, the entire city was drowned due to the rain and the rainwater entered in houses. Owing to the rain, low-lying areas were inundated in Gujranwala, Jhang and Narowal.

In Taxila, hundreds of graves were drowned due to accumulation of rainwater. In Jhelum, rainwater entered in the residential areas due to breaking of Domaili Dam.

 During the rain, several feeders tripped and as a result, the power supply to several areas was disrupted. The Met Office has predicted more rain during the next two to three days.
