Heavy snowfall paralyses life in Gilgit, Balochistan

GILGIT (92 News) – Heavy snowfall and bad weather have paralyzed the life in Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan, causing hardships to the people of the area. According to the reports, the fresh snowfall continued without any break and paralysed the routine life and disrupted traffic and communication between entire Skardu and different parts of Balochistan. The road connecting Gilgit to Ghizer and Astor has also been blocked following the land sliding. The Karakuram Highway is also reported to have been blocked for general traffic due to land slide in Kohistan area. The survivors could not sleep in their homes owing to aftershocks. The quake-hit people of GB demanded of the government to resolve their issues at earliest. Extremely harsh cold weather, chilling winds and snowfall are multiplying the miseries of people and creating obstacles in the relief operation in Quetta, Ziarat, Qilat, Mastung and Chaghi. The rescue teams have been arrived there and continued their operation to provide relief. They are trying to clear the routes and areas. On the other hand, tourists thronged Murree after snowfall continuing for the last days blanketed the city and adjoining areas. Vehicles were seen skidding on the roads due to one-foot snow. As a result, traffic flow was disrupted throughout the city. On the other hand, the scenic valleys of Swat, Malam Jabba, Kalam and Marghzar gave a festive look after the snowfall stopped. The Met Office has predicted dense fog in the plain areas of Punjab, some districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Upper Sindh. Rain and snowfall is expected at several places in the mountainous areas.
