Hindu extremists torch 35 houses of Muslims in India's Telangana state
HYDERABAD (92 News) – In a fresh act of terrorism, Hindu extremists attacked a Muslim locality and burnt 35 houses in Telangana state.
According to the Indian media, the attackers also pelted a mosque with stones and tortured a ‘Muazan’, a person who recite the call to prayers.
Telangana remains tense as at least 19 people, including eight police personnel, were injured after clashes broke out between people of two communities.
The authorities have banned large gatherings in Bhainsa town. The internet service has also been suspended in Adilabad and three other districts.
Meanwhile on Tuesday, India's southern Kerala state became the first state to legally challenge a new citizenship law that has triggered nationwide demonstrations.
The Kerala government, in its petition, to the Supreme Court called the law a violation of the secular nature of the Indian constitution and accused the government of dividing the nation on religious lines.
The citizenship law backed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist party provides a path to naturalisation for people from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan, unless they're Muslim. It has led to nationwide protests and clashes with police, leading to 23 deaths.
