Hot weather spell continues in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – Karachi continued to experience an intense wave of heat on Sunday, with the mercury hitting the 40 degree Celsius mark. According to Met office, the hot weather in the city is likely to continue today as well. Weather conditions are due to the change in the wind direction as well as the sea breeze coming to a standstill. The worst heat wave to hit Karachi for killed many last year. The problem was compounded by power cuts which left people unable to cool themselves with fans and air conditioners, particularly affecting those unable to afford generators. Earlier, weather turned pleasant after the rain coupled with windstorm in Rawalpindi. Mirpur and Azad Jammu Kashmir hit by the torrential rain and the weather became cold. After three day, Muree again received snow falling. The weather department said continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country as a fresh westerly wave is likely to affect western central and upper parts of the country. On the other hand, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that at least 18 people lost their lives and 36 others injured in the recent rains related incidents in current spell of across Pakistan. According to details released by the NDMA, 18 people were killed, 36 were injured, while as many as 2,596 houses were destroyed in present spat of heavy downpour across the country and more affected the area of Balochistan. NDMA report shows heavy losses in FATA, where nine people were reported to be dead and 13 got injured, while six citizens lost their lives in Balochistan, the report read. Meanwhile, rescue and relief operations were underway in the affected areas as 10, 000 affectees have been provided with food packets, the authority said, adding that relief teams and relevant departments have been put on high alert to deal with any emergency situation.
