DAMASCUS (Web Desk) An Israeli newspaper has claimed that Russian intelligence arranged the emergency flight of ousted Syrian president Bashar al-Assad from Damascus to Moscow.
A few days ago, former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad fled Damascus by plane due to the advance of rebel forces and went to Russia.
While Bashar al-Assad was fleeing Damascus, there were reports that the former president's plane had lost contact with the control tower, after which fears were expressed that the Syrian president's plane had crashed.
However, later the Russian deputy foreign minister said that Bashar al-Assad had arrived in the Russian capital, Moscow, with his British-born wife and children, where he had been granted political asylum.
Now, the Israeli newspaper has claimed, citing sources, that the Russians told Bashar al-Assad that he had lost the war.
Russia advised Bashar al-Assad to leave Syria immediately due to the advance of rebels towards Damascus.
The Israeli newspaper report states that Bashar al-Assad was asked to leave for Moscow without informing his close associates, and Bashar al-Assad did not inform his close associates before the emergency departure.
Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the operation to safely transfer Bashar al-Assad to Moscow, after which Russian intelligence arranged for Bashar al-Assad’s safe travel.
Bashar al-Assad arrived at the Russian air base in Syria in his private jet from Damascus. During Bashar al-Assad’s trip, the plane’s transponder was turned off so that the plane’s location and other information could not be detected.
Bashar al-Assad left for Moscow from Khmeimim Air Base in a Russian military plane, and Turkish airspace was avoided during the trip to Russia.
