ICC CEO arrives to witness PSL final as Murad reviews arrangements

KARACHI (92 News) – Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has arrived to review the arrangements for Pakistan Super League (PSL) final match on Sunday here. Talking to the journalists at National Stadium Karachi, the Sindh chief minister said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants to bring international cricket back to the country, adding that the recent PSL matches, they were looking toward restoration of international cricket in the country. Murad Ali Shah said that he is delighted that the second straight final of the PSL is going to be played in Karachi today. “Purana [old] Karachi has returned. I hope that Purana Pakistan will also come back,” he added. The chief minister said people from all over the country are coming to see the final match, adding the government has ensured that spectators won’t have to face hardships. It was also reported that Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto will also watch the today’s fixture in the stadium.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Dave Richardson arrived here on Saturday to witness the final of the HBL PSL between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators to be played at the National Stadium on Sunday (today). After landing here at the Jinnah International Airport, the former South African Test stumper was then taken to the hotel amid water-tight security. According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), he is also scheduled to hold a news conference during the innings break of the final.

Quetta Gladiators hope their in-form opener Shane Watson will make them third time lucky as they look to avoid another knock-out punch from a spirited Peshawar Zalmi when the two teams clash in the sell-out final of the Pakistan Super League at the National Stadium on Sunday. The match will start at 8pm, but the closing ceremony will begin at 6pm. Quetta have beaten Peshawar in both the league games this season, before having the better of their arch-rivals in the Wednesday’s qualifier at the back of a powerful performance, but they are wary of a knock-out punch from the Daren Sammy-led Peshawar. Despite beating Peshawar in the qualifiers in 2016 and 2017 in thrilling last-over finishes by one-run, Quetta lost in the 2017 final by 58 runs in Lahore and in the Eliminator 1 last year.
