KARACHI (92 News) – In response to the letter of the Sindh government, the federal government said that IGP Kaleem Imam will continue to work till final decision. The letter written to the Sindh chief secretary by the Establishment Division said that the Sindh government’s application is under consideration. It also stated that the additional IG cannot be given the charge till final decision. On the other hand, Minster for Information Saeed Ghani said that IGP Kaleem Imam had become controversial. “Those defaming the government should quit,” he said. The minister said that any officer other than Kaleem Imam would have resigned. “A police officer should not be in favour or against of anyone. Some police officers are conspiring against the Sindh government,” he said. On January 17, the Sindh government had decided to send IGP Kaleem Imam on leave for replacing him with another top officer. Talking to the media on Thursday, Saeed Ghani said that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s discussion over the issue with Prime Minister Imran Khan had turned out to be meaningless. “All proceedings are as per law. Firdous Shamim has wrongly termed the decision one-sided,” he said. He said that no one raises the question if the decision is taken by Usman Buzdar. Meanwhile, the Sindh government had sent the names of Mushtaq Mehr, Ghulam Qadir Thebo and Kamran Afzal to the federal government for the slot. Earlier, the Sindh government had recommended the removal of IGP Kaleem Imam. The approval to remove the incumbent IGP came during an urgent meeting of the provincial cabinet, which was presided over by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The cabinet members raised their reservations over the political affiliations of the current IG during the meeting. Most of the cabinet members have suggested the name of Ghulam Qadir Thebo. In Sept 2018, Dr Syed Kaleem Imam was appointed as the inspector general of Sindh police (PSP, BS-21).
