ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday acquitted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference.

The court also nullified the verdict of the accountability court in the case. A two-member bench headed by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Gull Hassan Aurangzeb heard the appeals filed by PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif against his conviction in the Avenfield and Flagship references.

Meanwhile, the NAB withdrew the appeal against the acquittal of Nawaz Sharif in the Flagship reference. In 2018, the accountability court had convicted the Sharif family in the Avenfield apartment reference.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was handed 10 years as jail time for owning assets beyond known income and one year for not cooperating with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Maryam was given seven-year for abetment and one year for non-cooperation with the bureau.
The Sharif family had filed appeals against its conviction before the IHC in the second week of August 2018.
