IHC adjourns appointment of Ali Jahangir as US envoy till Oct 4

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has adjourned the case challenging to appointment of Ali Jahangir as Pakistan’s ambassador to US till the formation of new government after election. The bench, headed by Justice Athar Minallah, heard a case challenging the appointment of Ali Jahangir as Pakistan’s ambassador to US at Islamabad High Court. The petitioner’s lawyer said that Ali Jahangir was not on merit to become the ambassador. To the reply, the justice said that deployment of Ali as US envoy was embarrassment for Pakistan. Justice Athar asked from the attorney general that appointment of Ali was embarrassment for Pakistan. The attorney general replied that no doubt the reservations of the court were absolutely true. The justice remarked that it would be better if Ali Jahangir does not accept the appointment as the US ambassador. Expressing his remarks, the justice said that the caretaker government cannot decide about the appointment of the US ambassador. The court adjourned the proceedings till October 4. Earlier, a petition was also filed in Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the appointment of Siddiqui, saying that the appointment should immediately declare Siddiqui’s appointment as null and void. Siddiqui, who is the son of a renowned businessman and banker Jahangir Siddiqui, took charge as Pakistan’s envoy to the US on May 29, which led to many people questioning his credentials for the post.
