ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has given the parliament a January 15 deadline for appointment of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) members. Hearing the petitions regarding appointment of two members, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that a good impression is not being conveyed due to lack of consensus over the issue. “It is wrong if a person cannot be found from among 220 million people,” he ruled. He remarked that new names should be introduced if there is no consensus over the previous names. “The working rules for the parliamentary committee are not permanent. We hope that consensus will be evolved in parliament,” he said. The chief justice ruled that each parliamentary committee could decide its rules for the working. National Assembly Legal Adviser Abdul Latif Yousafzai told the court that the last meeting of the parliamentary committee was held on Monday. “Some members could not attend the meeting due to fog,” he said.
