IHC increases sentence of judge, wife in Tayyaba torture case

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court increased the sentence of the suspended judge Raja Khurram Ali and his wife Maheen Zafar by two years in the Tayyaba torture case. After the increase, the sentence has been raised to three years. They were arrested from the courtroom. A division bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the case. The court accepted the plea filed by federation announcing verdict on intra-court appeal. The court dismissed the appeals of the suspended judge and his wife, and increased their sentences. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 0.5 million on the convicts. On June 16, Islamabad High Court Justice Aamer Farooq ruled that suspended Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife Maheen Zafar would serve a year each in prison for torturing the child maid under Section 328-A (cruelty to a child).
