September 12, 2019
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued a notice to Fawad Chaudhry against a petition seeking his disqualification. The IHC fixed a plea for hearing, seeking disqualification of Fawad Chaudhry from holding a public office under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. The IHC also issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Ministry of Law and asked the three to submit their response within two weeks. During the hearing, the lawyer pleaded before IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah that the minster had concealed his assets while submitting his nomination papers to the ECP and should be disqualified under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution. The petition states, “He did not declare land he owns in Jhelum,” the lawyer said. “He is not sadiq and amen.” The constitutional article says that a person can be disqualified as a member of the national or provincial legislatures if he is not ‘Sadiq and Ameen’ – truthful and trustworthy.
