IHC likely to announce verdict on Sharif's suspension of sentence plea today

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Islamabad High Court (IHC) is likely to announce its verdict on petitions of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain (Retd) Safdar seeking suspension of their sentence in the Avenfield reference by the NAB court. A two-member bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the petitions filed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (r) Safdar. In its proceedings on Tuesday, the two-judge IHC bench led by Justice Athar Minallah Justice Athar Minallah said that if National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor does not conclude its arguments a verdict will be announced on Sharif family’s pleas challenging the Avenfield verdict today. The justice allowed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) until Wednesday to conclude its arguments. On Monday, the Supreme Court penalised the bureau for filing a “frivolous” petition blocking the Avenfield verdict suspension pleas before the IHC and fined the anti-graft watchdog Rs20,000.
