ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday nullified the verdict of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding its postponement, ordering to hold it on December 31.

After hearing the arguments, the court had reserved the verdict on the postponement of the local government elections. The PTI and the Jamaat-e-Islami had moved court against the postponement of the elections.

In its reply, the ECP had held the government responsible for the delay in the LG elections and prayed to court to dismiss the applications.

Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar had agreed to hold the LG elections in four months.

On Thursday, the court had instructed the ECP to submit local government elections’ new timeline after holding consultation with the federal government. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir also sought written arguments from the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) and the ECP.
