IHC seeks reply from all parties on plea against Presidential Ordinances

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday sought a reply from all the parties on petition filed against the Presidential ordinances. IHC bench headed by Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) MNA Mohsin Ranjha challenging promulgation of ordinances by President Dr Arif Alvi. During the hearing, Mohsin Ranjha said that the government passed eight Presidential Ordinances, saying, “We have not challenged ordinance but challenged the way of passing these ordinances.” Chief Justice Athar Minallah asked why the fair laws being challenged in the court. “It is the duty of the parliament to address the problems of people,” the chief justice remarked. “The court has many other things to do, keep the courts away from political problems,” Justice Athar Minallah further said. “Unfortunately mostly ordinances were passed in dictatorial rule,” the top judge said. “Legislation is the work of those sitting in the parliament,” the Justice said. The bench issued notices to president, prime minister, Law Ministry including the Attorney General of Pakistan and all other parties in the case. The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks. During the proceedings on the petition against the presidential ordinances, Chief Justice Athar Minallah took notice and addressed the petitioner and asked that he was prevented from speaking on the under trial case. “While the court has not made any such statement, why not initiate contempt of court case against you,” the CJ asked petitioner Mohsin Ranjha. To reply, Mohsin Ranjha apologized and Justice Athar Manullah remarked that let's see what to do.
