IHC to hear plea against ‘Azadi March’ today
October 9, 2019
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear petition against ‘Azadi March’ of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman today (Wednesday). On Tuesday, a petition seeking to stop the JUI-F from staging a march and sit-in – which is scheduled to take place on October 27 against the incumbent government – in Islamabad was filed in the IHC. IHC Justice Athar Minallah will hear the case on October 9 (Wednesday) against the ‘Azadi March’ and sit-in protest of JUI-F chief. Islamabad High Court Registrar’s Office has issued a cause list. In the petition, the petitioner requested to prevent Fazlur Rehman from holding the Azadi March and demonstration in the capital. The Supreme Court and the Islamabad High Court have ordered fixed place to be the premises of protest and the sit-in should remain there to avoid disruption in routine of the people, petition read. A citizen, Hafiz Ihtesham moved the petition, citing the Ministry of Interior, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), the capital administration, and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman as respondents. On October 6, Maulaan Fazlur Rehman had cleared that his Azadi march would only end when the government falls. “The entire country will be our battleground,” he said. “Our strategy will not remain stagnant. We will keep changing it to cope with [any] situation,” he said. He insisted that a “flood of people from all over the country” was coming to join the march. The JUI-F chief said that the whole country would turn into a battlefield once protests are started against the incumbent government. “The country’s economy has been destroyed and employment opportunities have been brought to an end. We will become the voice of a common man and Pakistan. “Imran Khan has put Pakistan in trouble by talking about nuclear war. It is a diplomatic failure of Pakistan to indulge in warmongering.”
