NEW YORK (92 News) - Pakistan says its primary aim at the United Nations with regard to Jammu and Kashmir is to secure the recognized right of self-determination for Kashmiri people.

In a message on UN Day, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the world body, Munir Akram said Pakistan has welcomed the UN Secretary-General statement that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute should be resolved on the basis of the UN Charter and the Security Council resolutions.

He said the UN Charter and resolutions prescribe that the final disposition of the state of Jammu and Kashmir will be determined through a free and fair plebiscite under the UN auspices.

Munir Akram said Pakistan will continue to press for the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
