LAHORE (92) - A private illegal detention cum torture cell of Lahore police have been unearthed in Gujjarpura locality of the provincial capital. The detention cell was established in the building of the Punjab agriculture department where local police used to detain suspects illegally and subject them to alleged torture. The discovery of torture cell has raised questions over the working of CCTV cameras in lockups of the police stations as it appeared that police officers are avoiding keeping the suspects in lock ups to avoid monitoring by the authorities. Detention-cell-2 According to an investigation report compiled by 92 News channel, several people were kept illegally at the cells for torture and money minting. The news channel had earlier pinpointed the same detention cum torture in Badami Bagh police station limits three months ago. Police-detention-cell Sources told 92 News that the station house office (SHOs) usually occupy private places by blackmailing business community and keep innocent citizens in private cells for ulterior motives. Taking notice of the news report, DIG Operations Lahore Ashfaq Khan suspended the Gujjarpura SHO and two policemen.
