India approves construction of controversial dam project on Ravi

NEW DELHI (92 News) – In another attempt of Modi’s government to cut water flow to Pakistan, the Indian government has approved the construction of controversial Shahpurkandi dam project on the Ravi in the Indian side of Punjab. Indian initiated water terrorism after border terrorism against Pakistan; however, the Indian government started preparations to eradicate Pakistan's water right by construction of dam on the Ravi river after other rivers. According to the Indian media, the approval was given in the session of Union Cabinet under the chair of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is conspiracy to cut the water flow to Pakistan and violates the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty. “The move will allow India to use the water which at present goes waste flowing through the Madhopur Headworks downstream to Pakistan,” It was reported. It was also said that the dam will be constructed in Pathankot. The project was initially planned 17 years ago at an estimated cost of over Rs2,285 crore. Meanwhile, the Centre will provide financial assistance of over Rs485 crore to the Punjab government for implementing the project. The project is expected to be completed by 2022. Recently, Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kishanganga hydropower plant during his visit to Indian-held Jammu Kashmir which was also the dam violates the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty.
