India cancels planned meeting with Pakistan foreign minister in New York

NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD (92 News) – New Delhi has cancelled a meeting with Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 27, said Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Ravish Kumar on Friday. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in reaction to the announcement, expressed his grief over the cancellation of the meeting. “We moved forward with positive thinking despite having the proofs and intervention. It is pity that India has not responded positively,” he said. He said that mental harmony is not visible from the Indian side. The minister said that the meeting has been wasted in the name of politics. “The Indian authorities are confused. Pakistan cares for the region and Indian politics,” he maintained. He said that solution to each problem lies in dialogues. After winning the general election 2018, Imran Khan had said that he was keen to improve relations with India and wanted work to resolve all outstanding issues through dialogue. Khan’s letter is the first formal proposal of bilateral dialogue since he formed the government in Pakistan last month. It came in response to PM Modi’s own letter on August 20 which conveyed that New Delhi was looking for constructive and meaningful engagement with Islamabad. Prime Minister Imran Khan had asked his Indian-counterpart Narendra Modi to resolve all issues of Kashmir, terrorism and including other issues through dialogue.
