India diverting attention from domestic issues by enmity statement: FM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Minister for Foreign Affairs said that India had cancelled the proposed meeting between the foreign ministers to divert attention from its domestic problems. Speaking to the journalists at the Pakistan embassy in Washington, the foreign minister said that India wants to use tactics for diverting attention from its internal matters by using enmity statements. “We wanted to hold foreign minister level talks to improve bilateral relations,” he said. Shah Mehmood Qureshi mentioned that he is meeting US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on October 2 to reset ties. “Pakistan wants peace in the region,” he said adding that Pakistan reserves the right to counter any aggression. The foreign minister said that peace in Afghanistan is in Pakistan’s. An inclusive approach is required to achieve a lasting political solution to the conflict. Shah Mehmood Qureshi has arrived in New York to lead the Pakistan delegation at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly beginning tomorrow. He was received at the railway station by Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi, and senior officials of the Pakistan Mission to the UN. The foreign minister will address the General Assembly session on Saturday. During his visit, Shah Mehmood Qureshi will also attend several high level events and hold close to two dozen bilateral meetings with his counterparts from around the world. On Wednesday, he will address the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation's Contact Group on Kashmir on the sidelines of the General Assembly. On Friday, he will speak at the Asia Society where he will interact with American academics, foreign policy experts and students.
