India not to invite Pakistan for Kabaddi World Cup
October 2, 2016
LUDHIANA (92 News) – Pakistan will not be invited to participate in the Kabaddi World Cup 2016 starting from November 3 in Punjab. Concerns around the security of the team compelled the organizers to drop the six-time runner up Pakistan. The decision was taken by the Organizing committee’s president and Punjab cabinet minister Sikander Singh Maluka following the tensions between nuclear arch rivals. Tensions between India and Pakistan have been simmering since Burhan Wani was killed on July 08, 2016 which triggered a massive public uprising in which at least 90 civilians were killed and other 14500 were injured in forces action. India also pulled out of the Pakistan-hosted 19th SAARC summit scheduled to be held in November. Following suit, several members of SAARC, including Bangladesh and Bhutan, pulled out of the summit leading to its postponement.
