‘India threatens Sri Lankan players to opt IPL or Pakistan tour’
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – India threatened Sri Lankan players to opt Indian Premier League (IPL) or Pakistani tour, said Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry.
In a tweet on Tuesday, India threatened Sri Lankan players that they will be ousted from the IPL if they don’t refuse Pakistan visit, the minister told by the sports commentators.
Fawad Chaudhry slammed on Indian sports authorities, saying that this is really cheap tactic, jingoism from sports to space is something.
“Informed sports commentators told me that India threatened SL players that they ll be ousted from IPL if they don’t refuse Pak visit, this is really cheap tactic, jingoism from sports to space is something we must condemn, really cheap on the part of Indian sports authorities, “ the minister tweeted.
Fawad Chaudhry’s tweet comes a day after, 10 Sri Lankan players, including T20 skipper Lasith Malinga and former captains Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera, pulled out of the upcoming tour of Pakistan citing security concerns. The Sri Lanka Cricket board said players in a preliminary squad were briefed on security arrangements for the six-match limited over series starting September 27 and given the freedom to decide if they wanted to travel. Earlier, the Sri Lankan security team got satisfied with the security situation during its visit. The international cricket was halted in Pakistan after terrorists attacked Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009. Sri Lanka and Pakistan were originally scheduled to play at a neutral venue, but Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) sent a security delegation to visit Pakistan after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) gave them an offer to play one match in Pakistan—it’s first of the World Test Championship. ESPNcricinfo report says the security delegation gave SLC “very positive feedback” upon its return from Lahore and Karachi. “The feedback we got from the security team was very positive,” SLC CEO Ashley de Silva told ESPNcricinfo. “We’ll be talking to the PCB about some alternatives before we arrive at a decision. The government will be consulted as well,” he said.
