Indian govt decides to seize Hurriyet leaders’ passports

NEW DELHI (92 News) – The Indian government has decided to seize the passports and withdrawing privileges of Hurriyet leaders in Indian-held Kashmir after they turned down an invitation by members of the all-party delegation that visited the state on Sunday to discuss the ongoing violence there. “The Hurriyet leaders stand to lose their passports and may have their security reduced. Their bank accounts and all past investigations against them will also come under the Centre’s scanner now.” The withdrawal of privileges is aimed at sending out a message after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Indian government will now take a tough stand when dealing with Hurriyet leaders. Reacting to the rejected invitation, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said their behavior did not stand for "Insaniyat, Kashmiriyat and jamuriyat". On the other hand, Hurriyet leaders had said that the all-party Indian parliamentary delegation has got unambiguous message from the Valley that there would be no talks until India accepts Kashmir as a disputed territory. The leaders while reacting to Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s claim over IHK and his anti-Hurriyet remarks said that Kashmir was an internationally recognized dispute, and Kashmiris were fighting to secure their right to self–determination.
