Indian occupation turns IoK into volcano waiting to erupt: Asad
November 24, 2019
NEW YORK (Web Desk) – Pakistani ambassador to US Asad Majeed Khan has said that decades of Indian occupation and repression in Occupied Kashmir have turned the disputed territory into a volcano waiting to erupt. In an opinion piece in New York Daily news, the Pakistani envoy said since August 5th, Kashmir has been under military lockdown and the Kashmiri people subjected to collective punishment in the form of mass arrests of their leaders, activists and young people under a complete communications blackout. He said having failed to normalize its occupation of Kashmir, India is gambling another military escalation on the line of control (LoC) hoping that it would help BJP externalize the consequences of its repression. On the other hand, in occupied Kashmir, there is no change in the situation in the Kashmir valley and parts of Jammu region on the 112th day of siege, military lockdown and internet ban imposed by India since 5th August. Restrictions under Article 144 continue to remain enforced in Srinagar and other parts of the territory particularly around the historic Jamia Masjid since August 4. All gates of historic Jamia masjid are closed. Jamia market is also closed. Additional troops are deployed outside the masjid and a bullet proof vehicle is deployed outside the main gate from Nowhatta side. The troops are also deployed in the masjid compound from Gojwara side to ensure that no one could enter the Masjid for prayers.
