Indian PM Modi to make surprise visit to Pakistan

LAHORE (92 News) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday reach Lahore on a surprise visit after returning from Afghanistan.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif few hours earlier. Modi will meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reached Lahore Airport to welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The statement came shortly after Modi tweeted that he will drop by Lahore to see Sharif on his way back to New Delhi from Afghanistan. This will be Modi's first visit to Pakistan since he assumed office in May 2014.

"Looking forward to meeting PM Nawaz Sharif in Lahore today afternoon, where I will drop by on my way back to Delhi. Spoke to PM Nawaz Sharif and wished him on his birthday," Modi said in a series of tweets moments after inaugurating the new building of Afghanistan Parliament in Kabul.

Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani jointly inaugurated new parliament building in Kabul.
