Indian SC orders Modi govt to restore normalcy in IoK

NEW DELHI (92 News) – The Indian Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered Modi-led government to restore normalcy in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) as soon as possible. The court sought replies on the detentions of Kashmiri political leaders. The Indian top court also allowed senior Congress party member Ghulam Nabi Azad for visiting the Occupied Kashmir. The ruling came as India’s top court took up multiple pleas against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s August 5 decision of revoking the special autonomy of Indian-occupied Kashmir. Meanwhile, the SC has ordered the government to submit a report mentioning actual situation in the region that has been lockdown for 43 days with communications blackout, internet and telephone services suspended. During the hearing of petitions, CJI Ranjan Gogoi remarked that if needed, he would himself visit Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed concerns over reports of inaccessibility of Kashmiris to the Kashmir High Court. On the other hand, curfew and lockdown continued at 43rd consecutive day on Monday (today) in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) from August 5 when Narendra Modi government announced scraping of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The occupied territory continued to reel under strict military siege and curfew on the 43rd consecutive day as all markets are closed while transport is off the road.
Indian troops kill two youth in fake encounter
The troops killed two youth in a fake encounter in Kathua district on Thursday, while another youth identified as Akhlaq Ahmad Khan, was picked up by police from a market and was killed a few hours later at Janipur police station in Jammu city. The Indian authorities had not made the Thursday’s killings public as yet. The family members of the third victim, Akhlaq Ahmad Khan, were called by the police over phone and were asked to collect his dead body from the Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu. They protested against the custodial death of Akhlaq Ahmad Khan and demanded a strong action against the policemen involved in the gruesome murder. Meanwhile, Kashmir valley and parts of Jammu region continued to remain under military siege and curfew situation for 43rd consecutive day, today with all shops, markets and business establishments closed while public transport off the roads. Besides, communication services including mobile, internet and TV channels are snapped from 5th of August, the day India scrapped Kashmir’s special status.
