Int’l community appealed to rescue Kashmiris
In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilani has appealed the international community to come to the rescue of helpless, caged and oppressed Kashmiri people who are relentlessly fighting for their inalienable right to self-determination. The appeal has been made in a letter addressed to Ms Debbie Abrahams, the Chairperson of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Kashmir in the UK parliament. The letter was handed over by a Kashmiri activist, Mrs Shamim Shawl in a meeting convened by the chairperson in London. Syed Ali Gilani emphasized that the international efforts must not stop at momentary de-escalation between Pakistan and India, but should continue in a sustained manner until the Kashmir issue was resolved, once and for all. He pointed out that only the resolution of the Kashmir issue could guarantee long-lasting peace and stability in South Asia. Syed Ali Gilani impressed upon the UK parliamentarians to use their good offices to prevail on India to initiate a meaningful dialogue to resolve the Kashmir dispute while respecting the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. Syed Ali Gilani maintained that India’s coercive policies against the Kashmiris have intensified since the Hindu nationalist party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, had come to power in India. Meanwhile, hundreds of students of the Government Degree College Bandipora expressing their strong resentment over the presence of Indian troops in the college for an event staged forceful anti-India and pro-freedom protests in the campus. The students raised slogans “Go India go back”, “No election, no selection – we want freedom”, “Pakistan Zindabad”, “Jeevey Jeevey Pakistan, “Hum Pakistani Hain – Pakistan Hamara Hey”. The protest by the students forced the authorities to call off the event and the troops including senior officers had to leave the venue. Indian troops launched violent cordon and search operations in different areas of Sopore, Kulgam, Shopian, Islamabad and Pulwama. Unidentified gunmen killed a youth in Kachdoora area of Shopian district. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front at meeting in Srinagar, today, paid glowing tributes to the noted Kashmiri lawyer, Advocate Jaleel Ahmed Andrabi, on his martyrdom anniversary.
