LAHORE (92 News) – Indonesia has on Friday suspended the execution of Pakistani death row prisoner Zulfiqar Ali. The officials of Indonesia's Foreign Office have conveyed us that Zulfiqar Ali's execution has been stopped and he is safe. Pakistani Ambassador to Jakarta Aqil Nadeem confirmed the Indonesian government’s decision to suspend the execution of Pakistani death row prisoner. Citing the findings of an internal investigation that found "serious breaches of a fair trial", Nadeem criticized the Indonesian judicial system and insisted on the possibility that Ali was in fact innocent. Zulfiqar Ali was among the 14 drug convicts who were shifted to the firing squad at an island outside Jakarta where his execution was stopped last moment. Zulfiqar had filed a clemency appeal to the Indonesian president a day earlier. Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's efforts have helped to halt death penalty of Pakistani prisoner. In a tweet message, she said despite bleak chance of success, the prime minister decided to make one more attempt to have Zulfiqar's execution suspended and it happened.
