Institutions should perform within constitutional, legal jurisdiction: PM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the institutions should perform their duties within their constitutional and legal jurisdiction. This was stated by the prime minister while chairing the party’s core committee session. The prime minister reviewed the current political scenario of the country during the meeting. The core committee held consultations over the December 17’s verdict of the special court which pronounced the death sentence to the former military ruler General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in the high treason case. The core committee also discussed the matters relating to army chief’s extension. The meeting decided to play an active role in creating harmony among the national institutions and hold consultations on the strategy regarding the extension of the army chief. On the occasion, speaking to the core committee, the prime minister said that confrontation among the institutions is not in country’s interest, adding the current government firmly believes in the supremacy of the Constitution and ensuring rule of law. “We need unity in order to tackle national challenges and defeat external enemies of Pakistan. The prime minister has lauded services of the Pakistan Army in a war against terrorism saying armed forces have rendered matchless sacrifices and restored peace in the country. The sources said the premier has barred federal ministers and government spokespersons from issuing statements on the verdicts of the Supreme Court and Special Court.
