ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Anti-Narcotics Court Judge Muhammad Naeem acquitted Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in the narcotics smuggling case on Saturday.

The court pronounced the reserved verdict. Witnesses have not testified about the recovery of 15kg narcotics from Rana Sanaullah. They stated that they had not seen any narcotics in the possession of Rana Sanaullah.

Farhad Ali Shah had presented the arguments on the acquittal plea of Rana Sanaullah.

Rana Sanaullah was arrested in the case under sections 9C, 15 and 17 of the CNSA Act 1997 on July 1, 2019 and sent to jail the following day. On December 24, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had granted him bail. He remained in jail for six months.

Talking to media after appearing in court, Rana Sanaullah said that President Dr Arif Alvi is trying to facilitate the talks. "The cases against the PDM leaders are being disposed of on merit. The practice of filing false cases against the political opponents should be shunned," he added.

Rana Sanaullah said that UK-based newspaper Daily Mail had tendered apology for filing the baseless story against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. "PTI leadership should also apologize. PTI leadership is hell bent on destroying the country for the sake of politics," he added.
