KARACHI (92 News) – Intermittent disruption in power supply all the daylong added to the miseries of Karachiites who are already experiencing harsh weather conditions and sleepless nights due to the same reasons on Sunday. A surge in the temperature in the city for the last couple of days has increased demand for and use of electricity and a simultaneous increase in unprecedented and unannounced power suspensions. So far, the K-Electric (K-E) administration has failed to counter the power predicament. The city is experiencing 8 to 10 hour-long announced power suspensions with the rise in the temperature. Unannounced load-shedding continues not just during the day, but also at night in the Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Aizzabad and other areas of the city. Not only are the citizens deprived of water, but those who have to go to office, school and college in the morning are also disturbed. Due to prolonged load-shedding in the city, small and medium-sized industries are also being adversely affected. The industry responsible for crafting bandi from marble is one of the industries coming under increased threat due to load-shedding. Earlier, Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah had written two letters to the PM to take notice of the matter. Residents of the metropolis face prolonged and unannounced load-shedding while temperature has also risen above the past averages around this time of the year. Routine life has been hindered as outages become frequent with some areas rendered without electricity at least three to four times a day. KE has cited low gas pressure being supplied by the Sui Southern Gas Company as the reason behind the load-shedding in many areas of the metropolis. According to KE spokesperson, power plants have been affected by a gas shortfall of 100mmcf.
