Interpol seeks more documents to issue red warrants against Dar
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) on Tuesday sought more documents from Pakistan government to issue red warrants against former finance minister Ishaq Dar.
According to the reports, the Interpol declared the documents provided to issue Dar’s red warrant were incomplete. However, the Interior Ministry while informing the NAB about Interpol’s reply and directed the anti-graft watchdog to provide additional documents so that the red warrants of the former finance minister could be issued.
It is pertinent here to mention that last year in another major jolt to former finance minister, Interior Ministry approved issuance of red warrant against Ishaq Dar, to expedite extradition process of the senior PML-N leader.
The red warrant is an international notice sent to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) seeking the arrest and extradition of an individual.
Interpol rejects Pak’s request to issue Hussain Nawaz’s red warrant
A day earlier, the Interpol has rejected Pakistan’s request to issue a red warrants for the arrest and extradition of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz.
According to Interpol, the red warrant cannot be issued because of insufficient evidence. The request had been submitted to Interpol’s headquarters in France.
Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, Captain Safdar were also mentioned in the appeal document.
A five member bench of Interpol reviewed the matter through 10 sessions. However, the Pakistani government failed to prove allegations against Hussain Nawaz.
The Interpol stated, in its 10-pages verdict, that the documents for issuing red warrants of Hussain Nawaz were not reasonable and the Pakistan government did not provide trustable proofs against the son of Nawaz Sharif.
SC seeks progress report on Ishaq Dar’s return within month
Earlier, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has sought a progress report on the return of former finance minister Ishaq Dar to Pakistan within a month. A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case pertaining to Ishaq Dar’s return to the country.
During the hearing, the additional attorney general informed the bench that the United Kingdom’s Home Department has sent questions regarding Dar’s return, adding that the questionnaire had been forwarded to NAB and the bureau would answer them.
However, the anti-graft watchdog will submit its response to the UK high commission. “Ishaq Dar’s health issue is a lesser issue. He says that he won’t get justice,” remarked Chief Justice Saqib Nisar.
“Dar says that he will return when he will get justice. I don’t know what sort of justice he expects,” the chief justice added.
The top court instructed the NAB to submit its answers to the British High Commission and submit a report to the bench within a month. The hearing of the case was adjourned for a month.
Earlier, Dar has been declared a proclaimed absconder by an accountability court over his failure to appear in a case pertaining to his assets ‘beyond income’. He has been asked to surrender his passport and that of his spouse; however, the couple failed to comply with the court orders.On July 14, a red warrant for the arrest of Ishaq Dar was issued.
