Investigations underway into attack on Mufti Taqi Usmani

KARACHI (92 News) – After registering a case, security agencies have started a probe into the life attempt on Mufti Taqi Usmani. According to the investigators, the attackers chased the car of Muft Taqi Usmani from Gulistan-e-Jauhar. After the attack at Nipa Chowrangi, the accused fled from the same route. The police have recovered 15 bullet shells which has been dispatched to forensic laboratory. The police have also started geo-fencing of the site. On the other hand, the Aziz Bhatti police have registered a case against six accused. The sections of murder, attempt to murder and terrorism have been included in the FIR. On the other hand, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inquired after the health of Mufti Taqi Usmani at Darul Aloom Korangi.
Mufti Taqi Usmani escapes attempt on life
Two guards, including a policemen, were killed when terrorists riding on bikes attacked two vehicles of Jamia Darul Aloom, Karachi on Friday. However, Mufti Taqi Usmani and his family narrowly escaped the attack. The martyred cop was identified as Farooq. Two people, including Mufti Shahab, were injured in the attack. Karachi Police Chief Dr Ameer Sheikh inquired after the health of the injured and visited the site. “The policeman embraced martyrdom while protecting the life of Mufti Taqi Usmani.” He said that the incident is a conspiracy to disrupt peace, saying that foreign forces might be involved in it. Meanwhile, a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) team reached the spot and collected the evidence. The police have recovered 15 bullet shells from the site. After the attack, Maulana Taqi Usmani said that his wife and two grandsons also accompanied him. “I was attacked from all sides.” Meanwhile, Ulema held a consultative meeting after the attack and discussed future strategy. Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the attack on the life of Mufti Taqi Usmani. “It is a conspiracy and all-out efforts will be made to foil it,” he said. Meanwhile, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif, PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari, PML-Q president Ch Shujaat Hussain, PML-Q provincial president Pervaiz Elahi have condemned the attack. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and sought a report from Additional IG Karachi. The Sindh chief minister asked the additional IG to specify whether it is an incident of targeted killing or not. Shah also ordered the immediate arrest of the suspects. Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, “Maulana Taqi Usmani had been receiving threats for some time. He had reported that he had been receiving threats and his security had been increased.” “Hopefully we will arrest the suspects by this evening,” he added.
