LODHRAN (92 News) - In a surprise move, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) patron-in-chief Jahangir Tareen and Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Sirajul Haq announced to resign on their defeat in the elections.

In a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, he said: "I would like to thank everyone who supported me in this election and want to offer my congratulations to my opponents. I have immense respect for the will of the people of Pakistan. Therefore, I have decided to resign from my position as IPP chairman and step away from politics altogether.

"My gratitude to all the members of the IPP. I wish them the absolute best. By the Grace of Allah, I will continue to serve my country to the best of my ability in a private capacity. May the next few years see Pakistan prosper IA."

Jahangir Tareen had suffered a defeat from both seats of Lodhran and Multan in the recent elections.

In his resignation, JI ameer Sirajul Haq said that he had resigned. "I could not get the required success despite full struggle and hard work. Workers made hectic efforts. I resign as the JI ameer while accepting the failure," he added.

The JI spokesperson said that JI secretary general Ameerul Azeem had summoned a meeting of the Central Majlis-e-Shoora on February 17.
