NEW YORK (92 News) - Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that Islam fully protects the rights of women.

He was addressing the Conference on 'Women in Islam: Understanding the Rights and Identity of Women in the Islamic World' on Wednesday.

The minister said that the Muslim women have played an important role in each section of life.

"Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had raised the voice against violence against women. The Quaid-e-Azam had declared the women an important power of the society. Benazir Bhutto became the first prime minister of the Muslim world. Purpose of the Benzir Income Support Program is to empower women," he added.

Bilawal Bhutto said that the conference has been convened to dispel the deep misperception that exists about the rights, role, and identity of women in Islam.

"I urge the Afghan interim government to reverse these restrictions and enable the women of Afghanistan to make their full and invaluable contribution to the development and progress of their nation," he maintained.
