GAZA (Web Desk) An Israeli airstrike on Gaza’s Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis has resulted in the deaths of five people, including senior Hamas leader Ismail Barhoum, and left several others wounded.
Barhoum, a prominent member of Hamas’s political bureau, was reportedly receiving medical treatment at the facility after sustaining injuries in a previous attack.
Israel confirmed that the operation followed extensive intelligence gathering and aimed at a key figure in Hamas. The Israeli Defence Minister, Israel Katz, confirmed Barhoum’s death, calling him a “high-ranking terrorist target.”
The Israeli military accused Hamas of using civilian infrastructure, such as hospitals, for military purposes. Israel stated that the attack was carried out using precise munitions to minimize harm to the surrounding area.
However, Hamas has denied these accusations, labelling the airstrike as a violation of international law and condemning the assault on a medical facility.
This attack comes just hours after another Israeli strike killed Salah al-Bardaweel, another member of Hamas’s political bureau, along with his wife, in Khan Younis.
Israel’s military operations have intensified since the collapse of ceasefire talks last week, with ongoing air and ground campaigns targeting Hamas leadership and military infrastructure.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health reports over 50,000 deaths since the conflict's start, mostly civilians, as the humanitarian crisis worsens and global calls for restraint intensify.
