ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa remarked that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will have to face action if the intra-party elections were found invalid, adding that it will get a relief if the elections found valid.

Hearing the ECP plea against the verdict of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) in the PTI intra-party elections on Friday, he observed that it was responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to regulate the political parties and conduct the fair elections.

"The SC wants the conduct of the general elections on time. The PTI will have to tell as why it chose the Peshawar High Court."

He observed that the Supreme Court would not interfere in the working of the ECP. "However, a matter can be looked if the ECP does any unconstitutional act," he ruled.

The CJP remarked that all decisions made by the ECP would become meaningless if it does not file the appeal. "The court cannot play the role of a constitutional institutions," he added.

PTI counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan observed that an affected party can file an appeal, not the ECP. "The PHC had not issued the notice to the attorney general."

The court also asked Akbar S Babar to prove himself to be the founding member. Later, the case was adjourned until 10am on Saturday.
