KARACHI (92 News) - The Jamaat-e-Islami has asked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to extend cooperation for the slot of the Karachi mayor.
A JI delegation led by Hafiz Naeemur Rehman reached the Insaf Secretariat and held a meeting with Ali Zaidi.
Both sides agreed to give a joint reaction to the results of the local government elections. They formed a four-member committee to tally the Form 11.
Speaking on the occasion, Karachi JI ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that the recounting process was aimed at benefitting the PPP.
"The results of the local government elections should be as per Form 11. We have a working relationship with the PTI. The mayor of Karachi will be ours," he said, adding that the PTI should cooperate with the JI to win the Karachi mayorship.
He said that the people of Karachi had given them the mandate. "We will defend each vote. The mayor will belong to the JI," he declared.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that they participated in the election despite reservations and complaints. "We were not given the Form 11 even after the polling time. Results were changed overnight."
PTI leader Aki Zaidi said that their mandate was stolen in about 40 union councils. "We will raise the issue at all relevant forum, including the ECP."
He said that the alliance could not be forged with the PPP at any level.
