LAHORE (92 News) – The 76th foundation day of the Jamaat-e-Islami was celebrated on Friday. In Multan, the JI took out a rally to express solidarity with the Kashmiris. JI ameer Sirajul Haq and Liaquat Baloch addressed the rally. The JI ameer said that those chanting slogans against Pakistan will meet Mir Jafar-like fate. “The elite flee to London during difficult times,” he said. “Pakistan is a name of an ideology. The MQM chief has challenged the sacrifices of Mohajirs,” he said. The Jamaat-e-Islami was founded in 1941, while its constitution was implemented in June 1957. According to the JI constitution, each ameer is elected for five years. Sirajul Haq is the fifth ameer. Maulana Abul A’la Maududi became the first ameer and remained in the office till 1972. Mian Tufail Muhammad remained the ameer from 1972 to 1987. Qazi Hussain Ahmed was the third ameer who relinquished the office for his poor health after being elected the ameer for five times. The Jamaat-e-Islami gained popularity during the period of Qazi Hussain Ahmed. His slogan ‘Zalmo Qazi Aa Raha Hey’ remained popular due the movements launched against the governments repeatedly. Syed Munawar Hussain was elected the fourth ameer. His period is considered the most difficult period. The JI lost popularity reduced during his tenure. Senator Sirajul Haq is the fifth ameer and he will remain in his office till 2018. The Jamaat-e-Islami is considered one of the organized parties of the country. It is run under an organized system. The election of a new ameer after each five years in a democratic way distinguishes it from other parties.
