TOKYO (92 News) - Japan has restored diplomatic relations with Afghanistan.

Addressing a press conference in Tokyo, Yoshimasa Hayashi said that they are resuming limited diplomatic relations with Afghanistan after a one-year standoff. “The Embassy of Japan will limit its activities in Kabul. The Embassy is currently conducting urgent work. Other factors will also be taken into consideration for complete restoration.”

The Japanese foreign minister declined to give further details due to security reasons.

Japan had closed its embassy upon the fall of the Ashraf Ghani regime and continued diplomatic activities from Qatar on a temporary basis. Observers are seeing the start of diplomatic activities as a positive development.
