SEOUL (Web Desk) K-pop star Jennie of BLACKPINK is at the centre of a plagiarism controversy after fans noticed similarities between her new song "Like Jennie" and a track from the Bollywood film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
The song, which Jennie teased on Instagram ahead of its Friday release, has been accused of copying the "Rani Anthem" used to introduce Alia Bhatt's character in the film.
Social media was quickly flooded with comparisons, with some users calling out Jennie for allegedly plagiarising the track composed by Pritam.
One fan expressed disbelief, stating, "Jennie is plagiarising Pritam, out of all, Bollywood out of all." Another fan page even posted a side-by-side comparison, claiming that the two songs "sound no different."
However, others defended Jennie, explaining that similarities in music are often due to sampling, and that providing credits to the original creators makes it legitimate. "Sampling is not the same as plagiarising," one user argued.
While Jennie’s team has yet to comment on the claims, the controversy has sparked intense debate among fans of both K-pop and Bollywood.
It should also be noted here that Jennie’s debut solo album, Ruby, is set to release on March 7, and her upcoming world tour with BLACKPINK is highly anticipated.
