ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed moved a resolution seeking the conduct of the general elections on time.

The resolution stated that it was responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the caretaker government to conduct the elections on the stipulated time. "The Supreme Court has announced the verdict and the passage of the election delay resolution is undemocratic and unconstitutional," it added.

The resolution demanded that free and fair elections should be held on February 8 and all parties should be provided with a level playing field. "The recently passed resolution be considered illegal."

On Friday, the Senate approved a resolution seeking a delay in the general elections scheduled for February 8. Senator Dilawar Khan had moved the resolution, which was approved by the 14-member House. PML-N Senator Afnan Khan opposed the resolution, while PTI Senator Gurdeep Singh and PPP's Behramand Tangi did not take part in the voting.
