JIT completes probe into Model Town tragedy, sends report to IGP Punjab

LAHORE (92 News) – The joint investigation team (JIT) on Tuesday completed a probe into the Model Town tragedy and sent a report to the IGP Punjab in this regard. As many as 11 workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) were killed, while over 100 injured in a clash with the police on June 2014. The Punjab government had formed a JIT headed by Quetta CPO Abdur Razzaq Cheema to probe the matter. The Toba Tek Singh DPO, representatives of MI, ISI and IB were also included in the JIT. The statements of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, former law minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Lahore CCPO Ch Shafiq Gujjar, Lahore commissioner and police officers. The FIR of Model Town tragedy was registered on the application of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek on August 28, 2014. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and federal and provincial cabinet members had been nominated in the FIR. However, no PAT office-bearer or worker recorded his statement before the JIT. The JIT had issued notices to 49 people belonging to different districts through DPOs.
